AtoB@C Shipping and EFO: Partnering for Sustainable Shipping Solutions
AtoB@C Shipping and EFO, in collaboration with Swedish energy companies, are committed to advancing sustainable practices in maritime transport. This partnership focuses on reducing carbon dioxide emissions through innovative measures and operational efficiencies.
"We are excited to partner with EFO in advancing greener shipping practices. Renewable fuels are pivotal in mitigating shipping emissions."
Frida Rowland, Commercial Director at AtoB@C Shipping.
Commitment to Sustainability
AtoB@C Shipping and EFO have initiated a significant step towards sustainability by substituting 10% of EFO’s annual fuel consumption in sea transport with renewable alternatives. This initiative is projected to achieve a substantial 8,5% reduction in lifecycle emissions, contributing positively to environmental goals.
Operational Excellence: Virtual Arrival Implementation
To optimize vessel speed and reduce emissions further, AtoB@C Shipping and EFO have adopted Virtual Arrival as a standard operational practice. This approach adjusts vessel speed based on anticipated port delays, effectively lowering voyage emissions. On average, Virtual Arrival has already demonstrated a 10% reduction in emissions for AtoB@C Shipping’s voyages where implemented.
Milestone Achievement
The collaboration celebrated its first voyage powered by renewable fuel with the vessel Costamar and the second one with Electramar's journey to Oxelösund on 02 September, carrying a full cargo of woodchips. These milestones underscore the tangible progress towards greener shipping solutions.

About EFO
EFO have been relocating energy for over 40 years. EFO was founded on the need for securing the supply of fuel for its owners, a group of Swedish Utility companies, at the time when oil and coal were the basis for heat generation. But as a consequence of the growing need for an environmentally viable solution for the continuous arising of residual waste, EFO has shifted its business to offer the waste service to international customers as a solution to the never-ending flow of waste. We are proud to have this collaboration with AtoB/ESL, and we believe they share our vision on sustainability as well as what can be done today to rapidly reduce emissions. AtoB/ESL has a clear and long-term plan to renew its fleet and demonstrates that projects like this can be realized immediately, while other shipping companies are still only talking about it. We see ourselves as being at the forefront and are already involved in several other collaborations to accelerate the transition. We are unusually quick to act when it comes to this type of collaboration, and with the resources and opportunities provided by our owners, we have the possibility to be a long-term partner for shipping companies that dare to find and offer new solutions to reduce their emissions more quickly.
